Getting Married in Rome

The Basilica di San Silvestro in Capite is staffed by Pallottines: Priests and Brothers of the Society of the Catholic Apostolate. The Basilica has served in building Christian Community since 761AD.

Introduction:

You have expressed an interest in getting married in
Rome and have contacted us in order to obtain the necessary information to plan your wedding. We hope that the following information and suggestions will be helpful. This is an A – Z guide on how to organise your wedding at this church. Please read over it very carefully.

This information is designed to help you make your own arrangements and to explain the whole process in a step–by–step manner.

You will find that the process of organising your wedding is not difficult. We will try to assist you in every way possible. Our first concern is to prepare you spiritually for the sacred commitment of Christian Marriage.

NOTE: Marriages cannot be arranged through travel agencies, wedding planners or any third parties – not
even parents. Marriage is a Sacrament involving the free and personal decision of the couple concerned. We urge you therefore to take complete responsibility for all your arrangements. This is a sacred and delicate matter involving you and the Church. A useful PDF Document is also available containing all the information available here online: Weddings @ San Silvestro Info

Remember that your love for each other is a gift from God. It is the Lord who brought you together. As you approach your wedding day, ask him to help you to preserve the gift that he has given you and to make your love grow deeper and stronger as the years go on. Make his Son, Jesus Christ, the centre of your lives and the source of your inspiration and strength in all the joys and sorrows of life,

You are partners with Christ in the great mission of preserving the values of Christian family life, based on the teaching of the Gospel and obedience to the commandments. This will not happen automatically. You must consider it a duty of love never to neglect the Mass or the Sacraments, prayer and works of charity. These are your lifelines to God who is the source of your love. You will be married in Rome, the center of Christendom. Important as it is, the wedding day is just one day. You have a lifetime together ahead of you. Marriage is too important not to be taken seriously.

“Your light must shine in the sight of others, so that, seeing your good works, they may give the praise to your Father in heaven.” -Matthew 5:16.
